Key Responsibilities
Surface Preparation: Prepare metal surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, and applying primers as necessary to ensure proper adhesion of paint.
Paint Application: Apply paint to metal surfaces using spray guns, brushes, or rollers, ensuring even coverage and smooth finishes. Adjust paint application techniques based on the type of metal and desired finish.
Color Matching: Mix paint colors to match specified shades or customer requirements, ensuring accuracy and consistency in color reproduction.
Quality Control: Inspect painted surfaces for defects, such as runs, sags, or uneven coverage, and make necessary adjustments to achieve desired results. Perform touch-ups or rework as needed to meet quality standards.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines when handling paint, solvents, and other hazardous materials. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow proper ventilation procedures to minimize health risks.
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain painting equipment and tools in good working condition by cleaning, calibrating, and performing routine maintenance tasks. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the supervisor for timely resolution.
Documentation: Keep accurate records of paint usage, color formulas, and work performed. Complete job tickets, production reports, and other documentation as required by company policies and procedures.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members, including metal fabricators, welders, and finishers, to coordinate workflow and ensure timely completion of projects.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a metal painter or similar role, with a strong portfolio demonstrating proficiency in painting metal surfaces.
Knowledge of painting techniques, tools, and materials used in metal finishing processes.
Familiarity with color theory, mixing paint colors, and matching shades to customer specifications.
Attention to detail and ability to work with precision to achieve high-quality finishes.
Strong understanding of safety practices and procedures when working with paints and chemicals.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Physical stamina and dexterity to perform repetitive tasks, lift heavy objects, and work in various environmental conditions.
Education and Certification
High school diploma or equivalent qualification required.
Additional certification or training in painting, finishing, or related field preferred.
